Support Us
This year, UK Deaf Sport needs your support more than ever-
We are facing some tough times. We are not part of the government Lottery funding for Olympic and Paralympic sport. We need over £70,000 a year for operational costs and then £500,000 every four years to send the British team to the Deaflympic Games (Summer and Winter)
Because all our services are provided free of charge, you can see how reliant we are on support from the community. Support from people like you. To continue providing our services, we must generate over £710,000 over the next three years.
An Athletes Story - Rajeev Bagga, Badminton
"I was very proud to win my Silver medal for Great Britain. But I went over to see the injured Lithuanian player and I gave my medal to him because he was injured in the early stages of the competition but he came along on crutches to watch us and I was inspired to see him watching us in the Final. I wanted to honour his freindship and support. We both had tears in our eyes, the TV cameras were watching and everyone was clapping."
Rajeev Bagga, British Deaf Sports Personality of the Year 2009/2010 recounting his experience at the Taiwan Deaflympics 2009.
Life changing moments like these are what inspire us to work harder and we know that our work has been worthwhile. But how many people know that Rajeev - a five-times Deaflympic Golf medalist also a former Commonwealth Games athlete and is currently European Veterans Champion (Mainstream sport)? He has accomplished almost as much honours as Tanni Grey Thompson and still competing at a high level but has not recieved any of the same recognition for himself or deaf sport.
We are imensely proud of our supporters past and present and we would not be here today if it were not for the unstinting support of the local communities where our Deaflympic athletes live, work and train.
As the demand for exceptional performances intensifies year on year, the costs of training and entering international qualifying events rises - we are therefore grateful to you for considering to support British Deaflympic athletes.
Your suport will help British athletes to give their lifetimes best performance in Athens at the Deaflympics 2013 and get the recognition they deserve.
With your help, we can make the 2013 Deaflympic Games our best ever yet.
