DEAF CLIMBING LAUNCHES IN THE UK

Deaf Climbing UK have teamed up with Deaf Hub and Awesome Walls to celebrate their official launch!

12 noon on Sunday 3rd April at Awesome Walls in Sheffield.

Deaf Climbing UK (DCUK) is a deaf-led organisation dedicated to increasing deaf access and participation in rock climbing. The aim is simple: to provide social, developmental, and competitive opportunities at climbing centres across the country and to build a community of deaf climbers in the UK

Co-founder Suzi Rees shared her excitement for the event

“I’m so happy that we are able to launch such as fantastic organisation, not only to enable greater access to this amazing sport for deaf people but also to support instructors to become more deaf aware and inclusive in their service. It’s great to have Awesome Walls on board as the BMC’s national performance centre, it certainly makes for an exciting venue”

The day will start at 12pm and will be packed full of activities. For those wanting to attend you can choose from beginners climbing sessions through to advanced coaching with a GB Climbing Coach. For those who want to find out more but don’t fancy hitting the walls, the DCUK team will be on hand to share their experiences and provide more information. Tickets start from £9 and full equipment will be provided.

  • Children’s & Adults lessons
  • Professional climbing coaching from GB climbing coach
  • Spectators welcome

The event is being supported by Deaf Hub and interpreters will be available through the day. Deaf Hub Director Katie Billingham commented:

“We’re delighted to support Deaf Climbing UK. At Deaf Hub, we are passionate about supporting deaf people to access sport and wellbeing activities and couldn’t be happier to provide interpreter support although… I’m a bit nervous the team will make me get on the wall!
