Here’s an important announcement from the organisers of Deaf Sports Personality of the Year 2020 Awards:
Transcript of the video:
After much speculation about whether the 6th DSPY2020 awards Event will go ahead this year (As it would be 10 years since the first award night!). With the impact of the coronavirus being felt across the world, having a number of sporting events being cancelled and looking at taking all necessary steps to follow the Government’s advice as well as respecting the venue decision to safely host the event – those all were taken into consideration.
Our original plan was to host DSPY2020 Awards at Tottenham Hotspur Football Club on either Saturday 28th November or 5th December 2020 (pending Spurs fixtures which should be released in June/July 2020) but with the impact of the lockdown, social distancing and hygiene changes to follow the Government’s guidelines. It has been decided we regret to say that there will be no Awards2020 event this November/December.Instead we hope to book the next award event DSPY2022 at Tottenham Hotspur on November/December 2022 which will include Deaflympics 2021 and the European/World Championship events.
So what happens to 2019/2020 achievements you may wonder?DSPY do not really want Coronavirus to stop us recognising achievements in 2019/2020 because we strongly feel that recognition is very important to deaf sports athletes and community for their achievements during the year 2019/2020 we have agreed upon two options of Plan A and B instead as below:-
Plan A :- Host a virtual event instead in a studio Where An online audience can watch social media live streaming online to announce winners (only made possible if we have sponsorship from a media company.)
Plan B :- Revealing winners via a montage video on social media’ online on those platforms- website, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. For both options the winners will collect their awards at DSPY2022 Awards. We will decide which option A or B is possible nearer the time and will keep you informed.
Awards Categories:-DSPY have seen an increase in media filming and creating footage of deaf sports and the media work shown via internet, social media or on TV, both in the UK and Overseas hence DSPY are delighted to add two new award categories for 2019/2020 in the belief this will increase skills, awareness, role models and positive values for the long term. Hence the two new award categories are:-
Visual Sport Media of the Year. This award recognises media work to engage sport fans where this has had a positive impact on individuals or society, to increase awareness, compassion, and conversation around the topic by leveraging the power of deaf/mainstream in sports. This can include online, social media or TV, to transform the way around audience engagement levels using Sign Language, Subtitles or other access in the UK.
Overseas Visual Sport Media of the Year. This award recognises media work to engage sport fans that has a positive impact on individuals or society, to increase awareness, compassion, and conversation around the topic by leveraging the power of deaf/mainstream in sports. This can include online, social media or TV, to transform the way around audience engagement levels using Sign Language, Subtitles or other access Worldwide.Nominations:-Nominations for DSPY2020 Awards during the year 2019/2020 are now open via website online:- www.dspy.co.uk or Click Here till ends no later than 11.59pm on Sunday 4th October 2020.
