England Deaf Golf Open

The 2014 England Deaf Golf Open takes place on the 15-17 August 2014. The competition formats enable all levels of golfer to play golf at an excellent venue.

England Deaf Golf (EDG) is the National organisation for the Deaf, Deafened, Hard of Hearing and Hearing Impaired golfers, and this encompasses a wide range of communication methods from British Sign Language (BSL) to lip-reading and speech. It is a non-profit organisation run for the benefit of thegame and its players.

For the England Deaf Golf Open 2014 onwards the EDG committee propose the

following format aimed at to increase numbers taking part:

MENS 0-14 EVENT

54 Holes Strokeplay off white tees over 3 days. Fri 15th to Sun 17th August.

Gross + Nett prizes – CONGU handicap only (Deaf Golf Society handicap may be accepted)

Handicap limit 14 or under. (15 and 16 handicappers may be accepted – will play off max 14)

MENS 15-28 EVENT

36 Holes Strokeplay off yellow tees over 2 days. Sat 16th to Sun 17th August.

Gross + Nett prizes – All players including deaf golf society handicap

Handicap limit 28 or under. (higher handicappers may be accepted – will play off max 28)

LADIES EVENT

36 Holes Strokeplay off red tees over 2 days. Sat 16th to Sun 17th August.

Gross + Nett prizes – All players including deaf golf society handicap

Handicap limit 36 or under. (higher handicappers may be accepted – will play off max 36)

 

VENUE 

The 2014 venue for the England Deaf Golf Open is the Codrington Course at the Players Golf Club in Codrington near Bristol, Gloucestershire.

The club was opened in 2002 and has grown over a decade forming a 45 hole complex which consists of the 18 hole Codrington, 18 hole Stranahan and 9 hole Water Garden Courses. It was all designed by Adrian Stiff who is also currently the Director of Golf and has designed a number of courses in the South West which includes Forest Hills, Cumberwell Park and the Kendalshire.

The Codrington Course has developed the reputation of being one of the toughest courses in South-West England. From the back tees the course stretches to over 7,200 yards, however from the medaltees measures a slightly less intimidating 6,625 yards.

With a par of 72 and a Standard Scratch Score of 73 the Codrington offers a true test for any level of golfers. The course has been framed amongst woodland areas and combining an ecletic blend of modern and links-style design with numerous bunkers and lakes coming into play on almost every hole which further adds to the exciting character of the course.

The greens have been built to USGA standard with many contours and undulations. It has been ranked in the top 200 courses in Great Britain and Ireland by Golf World magazine in the past.

The Codrington Course has held a number of Europro Tour events televised on Sky Sports, South West Region Championships and Jamega Tour events. The facilities have drawn a number of players who play on the European Tour notably Gordon Brand jnr a former Ryder Cup player.
