Exeter Deaf Academy to host silent rugby match

Exeter Deaf Academy is launching a brand new initiative to engage the local community with deaf awareness – Exmouth Deaf Awareness Week from 17-23 September 2018.

On Sunday 23 September Exeter Deaf Academy will be hosting a silent rugby match to highlight the importance of deaf awareness in sport. The event will be attended by members of the World Champion winning Welsh Deaf Rugby Union team, including Academy student, William Thomas.

Deaf and hearing junior players and their coaches will take part in silent rugby sessions at Exmouth RFU to raise awareness of some of the challenges face by deaf rugby players in the sport. Hearing players, coaches and officials will wear ear plugs for the event while taking part in handling skills exercises and tag rugby games.
