An exciting opportunity has arisen at DeaflympicsGB, for a physiotherapist to join our sports medical team on a voluntary basis.

DeaflympicsGB are a multi-discipline sports team that will represent Great Britain at the forthcoming Deaflympics in Samsun, Turkey. We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, hard working and dynamic physiotherapist.

The physiotherapist will work across a number of sports over a three week period (15.07.17 – 31.07.17) during the Deaflympics liaising with the Chef de Mission, team managers & athletes. The role will encompass assessment, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation under the guidance of the Team Doctor. The role is an excellent opportunity to develop the applicants clinical and rehabilitation skills at a major sporting event across multiple sports.

Essential Qualifications/ Experience

  • A member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy with a Degree or Graduate Diploma in Physiotherapy
  • Registration with HCPC
  • Demonstrate continuing professional development
  • Detailed knowledge of doping rules and procedures as contained within current WADA list
  • Demonstrate a sound understanding of the needs of high performance competitors

Desirable Qualifications/Experience

  • A Diploma or MSc in Sports Physiotherapy and proof of working towards the ACPSM gold level or BOA Physiotherapy Register
  • Attendance at an International Multi–Sport Games, at either age-group or senior level as part of the headquarters medical team
  • Experience of working with an NGB or sports institute on a regular basis
  • ACPSM accreditation silver or gold
  • A massage therapy qualification from a recognised course that leads to full membership of the SMA
  • BSL level 1 or above

In addition to possessing the above qualifications, experience and meeting the demands of the listed responsibilities, physiotherapists are expected to have the following personal attributes;

As Physiotherapist for the Deaflympics GB team, your roles and responsibilities to the athletes, and as a UK Deaf Sport and Great Britain representative are as follows;

  • Provide physiotherapy support and/or treatment to all Deaflympic GB athletes
  • Act as a member of the Deaflympics GB staff management team, as required, in conjunction with the Chef de Mission and Chief Medical Officer
  • Act in accordance with the Deaflympics staff code of conduct
  • To assist in the packing and recording of supplies as required by customs and Turkish law
  • To ensure that the GB team are adequately stocked with physiotherapy supplies during the Deaflympics schedule
  • Record and report on all treatment given to athletes before or during the Deaflympics
  • Produce a post-event Physiotherapy Report on issues arising for future reference and planning
  • Report directly to the UK Deaf Sport Performance Committee (pre-Deaflympics)
  • Report directly to the Chief Medical Officer (during Deaflympics)
