The NDCS deaf-friendly football club project aims to support football coaches and clubs to increase their deaf awareness and to become pro-active to the barriers deaf children and young people face when looking to participate in football.
A pledge has been developed by the NDCS, in partnership with the Football Association, to ensure football clubs are ‘deaf friendly’ and are committed to creating equal playing and coaching opportunities for deaf people.
The Pledge is designed for all FA Charter Standard clubs, from local grassroots clubs to top professional clubs. Any FA Charter Standard club that wishes to become deaf aware and increase playing, coaching and socialising opportunities for deaf people at their club is welcome to get involved and join this unique scheme.
The project also coordinate and deliver both of the following two courses:
Coaching Deaf Footballers course
British Sign Language for Football course
Both of the courses are predominantly aimed at supporting coaches with none or limited deaf awareness or experience working with deaf children and young people. The courses will support you as a coach to improve your deaf awareness and to feel more confident when coaching a deaf child or young person.
