UK Deaf Sport has sent congratulations to the new Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport. We have also enquired as to the state of play on the UK Sport and Sport England merger.
UKDS Chair Philip Gerrard has written to Maria Miller MP , following her appointment in David Cameron’s recent reshuffle of his Cabinet.
In the letter, Philip hopes that the new Minister and her Sports Minister, Angus Robertson MP, can review “the legacy for the Olympics and the Paralympics and [determine] the inclusion of UK Deaf Sport and the Deaflympic pathway in the near future”.
UKDS also took the opportunity this week to send a reminder letter* to Sir Keith Mills, who is leading the merger of UK Sport and Sport England. In UKDS’ original letter, UKDS asked that deaf sports be included in the review process – “to prevent the [funding] problems of recent years being repeated in the future”.
We will keep our members and supporters updated of any replies.
* UKDS received an acknowledgement to its original letter but awaits an official reply.
