UKDS welcomes Deaflympics sports announcement

UK Deaf Sport has welcomed the release of the list of sports which will make up the Deaflympics in Sofia next summer.

Following ICSD’s release of the full list today  (12 October), UKDS can now move swiftly ahead with its own preparations for next summer’s event.

UKDS will step up their plans to decide which sports will make up Team GB and provide a more accurate sum for the final budget.

UKDS Chair Philip Gerrard commented:

“This is welcome news, and a relief for many National Deaf Sports Organisations.

“Our Deaflympics Organising Committee  (GBDOC) will immediately use this information to progress our plans for sending a team which can compete for medals.

“Once again, we congratulate ICSD on their achievement of creating the opportunity – in extremely difficult circumstances – for what will be an exciting Games”.

The sports will be:

  • Basketball
  • Beach Volleyball
  • Bowling
  • Cycling
  • Football
  • Judo
  • Karate
  • Orienteering
  • Shooting
  • Swimming
  • Table Tennis
  • Taekwondo
  • Tennis
  • Volleyball
  • Wrestling.
