With one week of the 2025 Deaflympics under our belts we moved into the weekend with lots of hope and excitement for more medals…and we weren’t to be disappointed!
Saturday saw the DeaflympicsGB Team competing in tennis, football, cycling and swimming. Let’s see how they got on!
Tennis
Esah Hayat and Lewis Fletcher were back on court in the men’s semi-finals. It wasn’t their day today however and they lost to their German opponents 4-6, 7-6, 3-6. They are still in with the chance of a medal though as they will go on to compete for bronze in their final match.
Football
The men’s team played a great match against Brazil, beating them 3-1. This means they are through to play for 5th/6th place.
Cycling
Oliver Pritchard rounded off his Deaflympics campaign by taking part in the Men’s Individual Road Race. It was a long and gruelling race which saw Oliver complete twenty laps of the course at an average speed of 32.4 kph!
Oliver gave it his all but narrowly missed out on a podium spot, finishing 6th out of 58 cyclists overall.
Swimming
It was another shiny day at the pool as Katy Wun and Charlotte Gower both had amazing days in the water.
Katy was taking part in the Women’s 1500m Freestyle Final. This long race comprises of 30 lengths of the pool. Katy was strong throughout, finishing in Gold medal position and only 3 seconds off the world record time!
Charlotte was busy adding to her medal tally too, winning silver in both the Women’s 50m Backstroke and 100m Freestyle.
Team GB also took 6th place in a very fast Mixed 4x100m Medley Relay.
