Recruiting to the Relations Advisory Group (RAG)

BSL translation

Do you have experience in the international sporting environment?

Would you like to support UK Deaf Sport with our work to encourage more deaf people to participate in sport and more deaf athletes to perform on the world stage?

UKDS are seeking to recruit one new ambassador to join our Relations Advisory Group (RAG). We welcome applications from across the deaf community and are particularly seeking applications from women to increase the diversity of the group.

The RAG is a voluntary advisory group which reports to the UKDS Board of Directors and Chair.

Who we are

UK Deaf Sport is the lead organisation for deaf sports in UK. We give support, raise awareness and campaign for deaf people, so they have the equal opportunities in sport and physical activity as everyone else.

Relations Advisory Group

The purpose of the UK Deaf Sport Relations Advisory Group (RAG) is to direct and advise on our strategy for domestic and international relations within UK Deaf Sport. The group will also lead and represent the needs of Deaf sports in the UK and on the international stage.

The Chair of RAG will be responsible for quarterly reporting to the board.

Full terms of reference available here.

Skills required

RAG Members (ambassadors) with experience of one or more of the following:

  • Experience of Senior management within a Deaf Sport Organisation or National Governing Body of Sport
  • Experience in sports law
  • Experience in international relations
  • Experience within national and international deaf events.
  • Desirable experience of international sign language.

All members will comply with UK Deaf Sport codes of conduct and relevant policies.

Time commitment

You will be required to attend all Relations Advisory Group meetings which are held quarterly and online.

RAG members may be required to represent UKDS at the ICSD and EDSO Congresses (usually held in Europe). Attendance would be rotated and expenses covered.

You may also be invited to attend UKDS Board meetings which are held quarterly and currently held online.

Additional commitments between meetings will include emails, adhoc virtual meetings and report writing.
