Deaf Athletes start bringing home the medals in the Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics

As Day 6 dawned at the Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics the air was heavy with excitement. With 5 medals up for grabs for the DeaflympicGB Swimming Team all eyes were poolside.

Gold for GB!

It didn’t take long for DeaflympicsGB to bring home the goods with a win for Charlotte Gower in the 200m Individual Medley.

Charlotte started swimming at the age of seven with Rugby Swimming Club, later joining GB Deaf Swimming and qualifying for the GB Nationals. Charlotte has also been selected to be a part of the Swim England talent pathway – National Youth Development Programme.

Katy Wun – Bronze Medallist

The medals keep coming.

Charlotte’s medal was quickly followed by a Bronze for Katy Wun in the 400m Freestyle. The Deaflympics is Katy’s first international competition.

‘I’ve dreamed about this since I was nine and met Danielle Joyce (double gold-medallist in the 2017 Deaflympics). She showed us her Deaflympics medals and I said to myself “one day, I’m going to be like her” not knowing how much hard work I had to put in to make the dream a reality.’ Katy Wun

There’s more to come.

Both Charlotte and Katy will be back in the pool competing in the coming days, along with the rest of their DeaflympicsGB Teammates. Watch this space for more medals to come!
