Great Britain Deaf Women’s Futsal Team to Winter Deaflympics Erzurum, Turkey 2024

Good luck to the Great Britain Deaf Women’s Futsal Team who will compete at the Winter Deaflympics in Erzurum, Turkey 2-12 March 2024.

The women’s deaf futsal team travel to Turkey to take part in the historic 100th year of the Deaflympics and it is the first-time futsal has been included in the Winter Deaflympics.

Watch and follow all the games on the Winter Deaflympics YouTube channel.

Great Britain Deaf Futsal Lead Oliver Eadsforth says:

We are delighted to have this opportunity to make Deaf Sports history, as the first ever Futsal DeaflympicsGB team to participate at the Winter Deaflympics, ironically in what is the 100th Year of Deaflympics.

Everyone knows the Women Futsal players are not afraid to succeed, especially in the last 2 years, winning the European Championship and coming 3rd in the World Championship.

The Deaflympics is the biggest stage in Deaf Sports, and we have worked together to send a strong squad and team of officials, to bring home the gold medal.

This is a remarkable achievement, especially considering the Winter Deaflympics was only confirmed in November 2023. It is important that our government and UK sports start to recognise the achievements of our UK Athletes and fund them fairly – being Deaf should not be a barrier to taking part in sports across UK and at the international level.

All our women players are role models and an inspiration to the Deaf community, encouraging everyone to engage with sports which can positively influence our wellbeing and mental health.

Joanne Cholerton, UK Deaf Sport CEO says:

GB Deaf Futsal have done a fantastic job preparing the GB Deaf Women’s Futsal Team to compete as DeaflympicsGB at the Winter Deaflympics in Turkey.

They have had to fundraise every penny to go themselves which on top of their training and other preparations has been stressful for the team and managers. This lack of funding for elite deaf sport is profoundly unfair. Please support UK Deaf Sport’s Fair Play for Deaf Athletes campaign by signing our petition on the link below.

We can’t wait for the Deaflympics to get started and will be supporting the team every step of the way as they progress through the competition and hopefully bring home a medal for DeaflympicsGB!
